There's no definition of ...

First, this is an (English language) philosophy dictionary. It includes lots of terms from related fields such as mathematics and computer science, but if you're looking for words from other subjects or general English words or other languages, try OneLook Dictionaries or yourDictionary.com.

If you've already searched the dictionary for a philosophy term and it's not there then please don't tell me. There are, and always will be, a great many missing terms, no dictionary is ever complete. I use my limited time to process the corrections and definitions people have submitted and to add the most frequently requested missing terms. Try whatis. See also the note on bad cross-references.

What does ... mean?

How do I do ...?

Where can I find ...?

Unfortunately, I don't have time to answer personal requests for definitions, or help writing essays, or explain what a text means, etc. so please don't ask me. Try searching the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy on CD-ROM in your library or the web via HotBot, AltaVista FAST Google or one of the many other search engines.

I found it!

If you do find the definition you wanted elsewhere, please send it to me so I can add it to the dictionary. Other people will probably want to know it too.

How you can help
