Sextus Empiricus

<history of philosophy, biography> ancient skeptic (-200) who defended the practical viability of Pyrrhonism as the only way of life that results in genuine ataraxia in Pyrrhonian Hypotyposeis (Outlines of Pyrrhonism). The translation into Latin of Sextus's comprehensive criticism of ancient schools of thought in Adversos Mathematicos (Against the Dogmatists) provided an important resource for the development of modern skepticism during the sixteenth century.
